Fairmont, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins fell to Fairmont State on the road when Zyon Dobbs hit a jumper with :02 left in the game to give the Falcons a 73-72 win. A balanced scoring attack that saw eight players score 6 or more points for the Senators wasn't enough.
The Senators lead most of the first half behind a strong offensive output which saw them shoot 16-29 (55.17%) from the field including 9-16 (56.25%) from behind the arc. Davis & Elkins would lead going into halftime 42-35.
The second half saw Fairmont State start on a 12-0 run to take a 5-point lead with just over 16:00 left in the game. The Senators would respond with an 11-0 run capped off by a fastbreak layup by
Rashaun Parker with 13:46 remaining. The Davis & Elkins lead would grow to as many as 9 with 8:39 remaining.Â
Fairmont State would trail 72-71 with :18 left to play to setup the dramatic ending. Coming out of a timeout the Senators defense stopped a dribble-drive before Dobbs was able to put up shot over a double-team from mid-range in the right corner to take the lead 73-72 with :02 remaining. A half court shot by the Senators would be off the mark to conclude an exciting MEC battle.
Parker and
Tristan Starks would be the only two Senators in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Sam Rolle IV would add 9 points, 10 assists and 5 rebounds.
