WILSON, N.C. -- Davis & Elkins swept a softball double-header against Barton College on the road in Wilson, N.C. Sunday. The Senators picked up a 6-2 victory in the first game and won Game Two 9-6.
GAME ONE
In Game One, the teams played scoreless through the first two innings. In the top of the third,
Anjolina Gutierrez doubled to center and scored
Alyssa Haynes, who had previous reached on a walk. Barton tied the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning.
The score remained 1-1 through the fourth and fifth innings and then D&E scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and two runs in the bottom of the seventh.
In the sixth inning,
Anjolina Gutierrez picked up another RBI when she singled down the right field line, scoring
Sharon Morales. Later,
Linzey Allard tripled and scored Gutierrez.
Jules Gutierrez then singled to right center, scoring Allard.
In the seventh inning,
Rachel Jones singled, advanced around the bases on a pair of walks, and scored on a fielder's choice. Haynes then scored on a
Anjolina Gutierrez sacrifice fly.
Barton scored a single run in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score of Game One 6-2.
Saylor Kneeland pitched the complete game for the Senators and picked up the win.
GAME TWO
D&E went up early on Barton in Game Two, scoring one run in the first inning and three in the second.
Anjolina Gutierrez set the tone in the first inning, homering in her first at bat. In the second inning, Allard hit a two RBI double, scoring Morales and Haynes and then Jones scored on a wild pitch. D&E was up 4-0 following the first two innings.
Barton scored a run in the bottom of the third to make the score 4-1.
In the fourth inning,
Jules Gutierrez batted in
Anjolina Gutierrez and Morales on a single to the shortstop in the top of the fourth inning. Jones scored on a
Kailynn Parks sacrifice fly.
Jules Gutierrez scored on a
Mia Ely single to right to put the Senators up 8-1.
Barton scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and three in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 8-6.
D&E scored the final run of the game in the top of the sixth when
Jules Gutierrez batted in Jones and the Senators won 9-6.
Alexa Uphold pitched four innings and picked up the win for D&E, while
Vanessa Hunt pitch three in the save effort.
