ATHENS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins Softball split a pair of Saturday softball road games with Concord University Saturday.
GAME ONE
The Senator bats were cold in game one of the doubleheader, managing to only scatter three hits and stranding five batters as they were outscored by the Mountain Lions 6-0.
Jules Gutierrez (double),
Linzey Allard, and
Maddie Lavelle each picked up hits in the contest.
Saylor Kneeland picked up the loss on the mound.
GAME TWO
Game two remained scoreless through four innings. In the top of the fifth inning,
Ashlyn Zapach singled to center field to score Allard, putting D&E ahead 1-0.
Zapach again batted in Allard and also plated
Anjolina Gutierrez on an RBI double to right center in the top of the seventh inning to put the Senators up 3-0.
Concord scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough as D&E won 3-1.
Zapach went two-for-two in a pinch-hitting role with three RBIs for the Senators. Allard had one hit and scored two runs.
Anjolina Gutierrez had one hit and one run.
Vanessa Hunt went the distance for the Senators, allowing just five hits and one earned run. She struck out two in the win.
