FROSTBURG, Md. -- Davis & Elkins lost a pair of Mountain East contests against last year's MEC North Division runner up, Frostburg State.
Â
GAME ONE
It was a rough start for the Senators, dropping to a seven-run deficit in the first inning in game one. The Senators held Frostburg to one just run in the second inning as Frostburg widened the gap 8-0. Both teams were held scoreless in the third inning and another tied inning with one run each team for the fourth, but the Senators couldn't chase down the seven-run gap from the first inning.
Â
D&E's lone run came when
Sharon Morales hit an RBI single that scored
Mia Ely.
Â
GAME TWO
The first two innings of game two were much more promising defensively for the Senators as they held Frostburg to a scoreless standoff. Frostburg, however plated two runners in the third inning leaving the Senators to chase a 0-2 deficit.
Â
The fourth inning was an even matchup with both teams getting just one hit apiece, while leaving that batter stranded. The Bobcats widened the gap again in the fifth and sixth innings with runs in each inning as they extended the lead to 4-0.Â
Â
Honesty Holt entered the game in the seventh inning to pinch hit and homered, scoring
Zenevieve Coronado-Casebolt and cutting the Frostburg lead to two runs. The inning ended with the next batter and Frostburg took the 4-2 win.
Â
The Senators are back in action Saturday, March 25 for their first conference home game doubleheader of the season against Concord University. Game times are set for noon and 2pm at Joni Smith Field.
