AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Davis & Elkins dropped three games in the middle of their Spring Break slate at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational, falling to Grand Valley State 14-1, University of Minnesota-Duluth 17-0, and Winona State 12-2.
GAME ONE
The Senators could not muster much offense as they were unable to score until late in the game, stranding five runners in the contest.
Grand Valley State scattered fourteen runs in seven innings and D&E scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh when
Brycen Sechler singled to center field and
Lucas Myford crossed home plate.
Larry Kusan,
Aydin Zimmerman,
Fletcher Hindman, Sechler, and Myford each had hits in the game.
Gavin Hartman pitched five innings and picked up the loss.
Wesley Athey and
Cole Hitch also action on the mound.
GAME TWO
Game Two was all Minnesota-Duluth. The Bulldogs went up early with a nine-run second inning and continued to plate runners in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings as D&E was unable to advance a runner beyond second.
Kusan and Hitch had hits for D&E.
Carlos Texeira carded the loss.
GAME THREE
Davis & Elkins scored twice in a 12-2 loss to Winona State.
Winona State scored first in the bottom of the first inning and D&E tied the game at one apiece in the top of the third when
Fletcher Hindman scored on a Zimmerman sacrifice fly.
Winona State scored the next seven runs over the next four innings.
The Senators scored their final run in the bottom of the sixth when
Connor Hyde scored on an error by Winona State's second baseman.
Following two more WSU runs in the seventh inning, the Warriors downed the Senators 12-2.
