EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Davis & Elkins squared off against quality opponents from throughout the Midwest in the three-day Blue Bridge Battle, hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan at Deaconess Sports Park.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24
INDIANAPOLIS 6 – DAVIS & ELKINS 5
McKENDREE 8 – DAVIS & ELKINS 4

On Friday, D&E lost a pair of contests. The first game, a tight, nine-inning affair with #19 University of Indianapolis, saw Indy walk-off on a D&E error.

The Senators held a 5-3 advantage midway through the eighth inning. Indianapolis scored a pair of runs in the eighth and the aforementioned run on the error to win 6-5.

In the contest, left fielder Alyssa Haynes had three hits, including a double and an RBI. Anjolina Gutierrez had one hit and one RBI. Linzey Allard added a hit and two runs. Mia Ely had one hit and one run. Jules Gutierrez had a hit and Kailynn Parks scored a run.

Vanessa Hunt pitched a solid complete game against a ranked opponent, ultimately recording the loss.

In the Senators' second contest of the day, they fell 8-4 to McKendree in seven innings.

D&E once again led early, holding a 4-1 advantage after the fifth inning. McKendree added three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to put the game away.

Allard added three hits and a run in the contest. Haynes added one hit and one run. Maddie Lavelle and Trinity Fleming each added a hit and an RBI. Anjolina Gutierrez added a run. Jules Gutierrez, Rachel Jones, and Sharon Morales added a hit each.

Saylor Kneeland picked up the loss in the circle for D&E.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 25
DAVIS & ELKINS 9 – ASHLAND 4
MISSOURI S&T 6 – DAVIS & ELKINS 5

On Day 2 of the Blue Bridge Battle, D&E picked up a win over Ashland and dropped an afternoon contest with Missouri S&T.

In the first game, down 4-1 to Ashland in the fourth, a Maddie Lavelle homer sparked the D&E offense. The Senators scored four runs in the fourth inning and four in the fifth to put them up 9-4. The closed the Eagles out over the next inning and a half to hold the 9-4 lead in the win.

Lavelle had three hits in the game. Jones also added three hits, including a double to go with two runs and two RBIs. Allard added a pair of hits and reached base on balls. Morales turned in one hit and two runs. Anjolina Gutierrez added a hit, a run, and an RBI. Gweny Wessling had a hit, a run, and an RBI. Parks added one hit and three RBIs. Ely also crossed the plate in the game.

Alexa Uphold pitched three innings and picked up the win. Kneeland came in to pitch four innings in relief effort and gave up only one hit.

In D&E's second game, Missouri S&T utilized a five run sixth inning to pull ahead of the Senators and put them away 6-5.

In the game, Parks had a hit and two RBIs. Jones added two hits, a run, and an RBI. Angolina Gutierrez added two hits and two runs. Jules Gutierrez had one hit and one run. Allard had an RBI.

Haynes added a run and Ashlyn Zapach added a hit.

Hunt pitch 5.1 innings and was awarded the loss.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 26
QUINCY 1 – DAVIS & ELKINS 0

In D&E's finale, Quincy scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning to win the low-scoring affair 1-0.

Allard had the only hit in the game for D&E. Hunt picked up the loss after, only allowing 2 hits in the entire contest.

The Senators play next on March 4 at UNC Pembroke. The doubleheader is set for a noon start.
