Senators Fall at Home to Frostburg State

ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a windy and hazy afternoon on Nuttall Field and had the visiting Bobcats of Frostburg State in an unfamiliar position. Frostburg came to town riding a seven-game win streak and were trailing early, but rattled off the next four goals to come away with the 4-2 victory over D&E.

Ella Schmidt was first to find the goal for D&E, scoring in the twenty-third minute. It was Schmidt's first goal of the season.

Alexa Karsel scored her seventh goal of the season in the twenty-ninth minute to put the Senators up 2-0. Karsel currently ranks third in the Mountain East Conference in goals and second in points with 17.

In the thirtieth minute, Frostburg State's Hannah Thompson scored her first goal of the season.

When the horn sounded to end the first half, D&E led 2-1.

Frostburg's Toni Fiocco-Mizer, the MEC's current number two goal scorer, added a goal in the fifty-second minute off a Mackenzie Alonso assist.

Alonso put Frostburg up 3-2 two minutes later on a game-winner off a Fiocco-Mizer assist. She added an assurance goal in the sixty-second minute to make the final score 4-2.

Frostburg led D&E in shots (19-13) and shots on goal (12-9), while D&E held the edge in corner kicks (6-4).

The goalkeepers, D&E's Katie Clarke and Frostburg's Ashley Bilger each had seven saves.

D&E falls to 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the MEC, while Frostburg improves to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the MEC.

The Senators play next at Fairmont State on Thursday, September 29 at 7pm.
