ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College softball team hosted the Glenville State Lady Pioneers for a Mountain East Conference doubleheader this afternoon at Joni Smith Field. The Senators won game one but lost game two on their way to splitting the day's action.
Game One
Kailynn Parks got Davis & Elkins off to a fast start with a home run to left center in the first inning. Glenville bounced back with a homer of their own to tie up the game in the second. Two fielding errors by GSU gave the Senators opportunities to take the lead once again.
Rachel Jones,
Honesty Holt, and
Trinity Cossette all scored unearned to take a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning. But again, the Lady Pioneers bounced back with a run of their own.
Linzey Allard homered in the fourth, bringing home
Sharon Morales to make the score 6-2, and although Glenville would score two more runs, D&E would hang on for a 7-4 MEC win.
Four Senators notched hits in game one, with
Trinity Cossette and
Linzey Allard going 1-3 at the plate, with 2 RBIs. The senior pitching pair of
Ava Willis and
Jenna Evans were on the mound, Willis for five innings, allowing seven hits, four runs, two earned. Evans pitched for two innings, allowing one hit. Evans earned her third save of the season.
Game Two
In game two, both teams notched 9 hits, but the Lady Pioneers were able to capitalize scoring two more runs and winning the game 4-2.
In the first inning
Linzey Allard would double to bring home
Mia Mendoza, unfortunately it would be D&E's only run until the seventh inning. Glenville played well and took the lead in the fourth, they would extend their lead in the fifth and seventh innings before holding on for a 4-2 victory.
Honesty Holt led the Senators going 2-3 at the plate, with 2 RBIs. Parks, Allard and
Jules Gutierrez all went 2-3 in game two.
Shelby Hile pitched for 4 innings, while
Jenna Evans was in the circle for the other three. Hile gave up three runs on six hits. Evans gave up one run on three hits.
Davis & Elkins is now 24-25 overall and 20-10 in the MEC.
Glenville State is 17-24 and 13-16 in the league.

Elle Fracker's team is Concord University at home on Saturday. The doubleheader will be senior day for the Senators and first pitch of game one is scheduled for 12 noon at Joni Smith Field.
