South Euclid, OHIO - The Davis & Elkins College softball team split their doubleheader with Notre Dame College Saturday afternoon. The Senators dropped game one 4-1 but rallied late to take game two 8-5.
Game 1
In game one, D&E struggled with at the plate, managing seven hits from 26 at bats on their way to a 1-4 loss to the Falcons. Mia Mendoza stayed hot at the plate going 2-3. Five other Senators notched hits in the game and Jenna Evans pitched the complete game.
Game 2
The Senators, led by a Linzey Allard homer in the first inning, came out fast in game two, taking the lead early. NDC answered tying the game 1-1 after the first full inning. The score remained 1-1 until the fourth, where Allard was at it again, notching her second home run of the game! However, the Falcons would not back down and over the fourth and fifth inning open a 5-2 lead. The Senators would have a dominating sixth inning to seal the comeback victory for Davis & Elkins. Hits from Mia Ely, Sharon Morales, Kailynn Parks and Honesty Holt were enough to secure a seventh conference win of the season!
Honesty Holt led the Senators going 3-4 at the plate and notching 2 RBI, Linzey Allard and Mia Ely both went 2-3 with 2 rbi for Allard and 1 for Ely. The pitching duo of senior Ava Willis and freshman Shelby Hile were at the mount for the majority of the game and pitched strong down the stretch to clinch the win.
Coach Elle Fracker's team is back in action tomorrow traveling to Philippi, West Virginia to face the Alderson Broaddus Battlers in a doubleheader. First pitch Sunday is scheduled for 1:00pm.
