BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Coach
David Pomeroy's Davis & Elkins College women's lacrosse team made the short trip to Buckhannon this afternoon. D&E earned a hard-fought 16-14 road victory over the Bobcats.
Zoie Donaldson opened up the scoring quickly finding the back of the net at the 14:24 mark of the first period. The Senators would add three more goals in the first 15 minutes of play. West Virginia Wesleyan scored twice to make it 4-2. The Bobcats would outscore D&E 4-2 in the second frame to tie it up (6-6) at the break. Davis & Elkins scored six goals in the third quarter and led 12-10 heading into the final period. The two teams would play even in the fourth and the Senators would prevail with a 16-14 Mountain East Conference road victory.
Ari Hinton led Davis & Elkins with five goals and two assists.
Griselle Rosado added five goals.
Emily Smith had her second consecutive hat trick. Smith also picked up a team high five ground balls and had one assist. Donaldson,
Haley Leavines, and
Mikaela Vento each had one goal.
Marissa Cuevas had 14 saves in goal.
The Senators improve to 5-7 overall and 2-3 in the MEC.
Wesleyan Drops to 3-8 and 0-5 in the league.
D&E hits the road again Thursday, traveling to Charleston to take on the Golden Eagles. Opening draw control is scheduled for 5:00pm.
