WHEELING, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College baseball team dropped a pair of contests to Wheeling University Tuesday afternoon. The games were originally scheduled to be played this past Sunday at Harpertown Field in Elkins, but weather didn't cooperate.
Game One
Wheeling scored two runs in the first inning, added three in the third, two in the fifth, three in the sixth, and five in the seventh. D&E would cross the plate once in the second and one time in the seventh to make the final score 15-2.
Austin Beattie went 1-2 with one RBI.
Zachary Higgins was also 1-2 with a double and one RBI.
Jayden Nixon and
Flecther Hindman each added one hit.
Game Two
The Cardinals opened the scoring in the top of the second inning and added three runs in the top half of the third to take a 4-0 after three complete innings. Wheeling would add two runs in the top part of the sixth inning to extend their lead. D&E would get on the board in the bottom half of the sixth crossing the plate two times to make it 6-2 after six complete innings. The Cardinals added an insurance run in the top of the seventh and held the Senators to one run in the bottom of the inning to make the final score 7-3.
Mason Brenneman was 2-4 at the plate with one run scored.
Cole Hitch went 1-3 with a double and one RBI.
Anthony Laney,
Jake Spearen, and Hindman each added one hit.
The Senators drop to 4-16 overall and 1-7 in the Mountain East Conference.
The Cardinals improve to 10-13 and 6-2 in the MEC.
D&E returns to the diamond this Saturday at Notre Dame College.
