Softball Drops Opening MEC Doubleheader to Frostburg State

Game One

The Davis & Elkins College softball team dropped their opening conference game of the season to Frostburg Friday morning, by a scoreline of 9-4. Coach Elle Fracker's Senators opened an early lead but were unable to hold on throughout the game.

D&E started strong, notching four runs in the first two innings in which they had four hits, four runs, and only one error. Unfortunately, the Senators would only manage three more hits as they were unable respond when Frostburg charged from behind.

Freshman Mia Mendoza had a strong showing, notching three hits from four at-bats and scoring one run, she led her team in hitting stats in the first leg of today's double-header. Jenna Evans was on the mound for the majority of the game, pitching 6.1 innings, allowing seven hits and five runs.

Game Two

D&E took the lead again early in game two, Kailynn Parks scored off an Honesty Holt double to right field to give the Senators another good start. Once FSU tied it at 1-1, D&E managed only one hit the rest of the game when trying to fight off the Bobcats.

Senior pitcher Ava Willis, pitched strongly for 5.2 innings, allowing only seven hits while three of D&E's four hits in the afternoon game came from freshman.

After Fridays doubleheader D&E falls to 2-15 and 0-2 in the Mountain East Conference.

Next up for D&E is a trip back to Fairmont to take on the Falcons.  D&E will be the home team in both games of the doubleheader due to field conditions in Elkins.  The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00pm Sunday, with the second game getting underway at 2 pm.  Fairmont is 4-8 on the season, they are coming off a doubleheader loss to West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday.
