ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College women's lacrosse team played host to the University of the District of Columbia Wednesday evening. The Senators used a balanced attack on offense to secure a 22-12 win over the Firebirds.
UDC scored two early goals and led 2-0 with 13:43 to play in the first period.
Griselle Rosado found the back of the net at the 12:56 mark to put D&E on the board. The two teams would play close the rest of the period with the Senators leading 6-5 heading into the second frame. Davis & Elkins outscored the Firebirds 6-1 in the second period to take a 12-6 lead at the break. D&E and UDC would play the third period even with each team scoring five goals. The Senators led 17-11 going into the final period. Davis & Elkins would add five goals the final 15 minutes, UDC would score one.
Ari Hinton led the Senators with seven goals and six assists.
Emily Smith scored six goals and assisted on three others. Smith also picked up six ground balls.
Haley Leavines found the back of the net six times, assisting on two others.
Griselle Rosado scored three goals on five shots and picked up a team best seven ground balls.
Marissa Cuevas had 18 saves in goal, she also picked up five ground balls.
Lauryn Lopez led the Firebirds with five goals followed by Anna Schamens four.
D&E improves to 1-3.
UDC drops to 0-6.
The Senators return to action Friday, hosting Ursuline at Nuttall Field. Opening draw control is scheduled for 4:00pm.
