ATHENS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College men's basketball team visited Concord Saturday. D&E would once again have to play shorthanded. Already playing with only eight players, the Senators lost
Breland Walton early in the contest. Davis & Elkins made things interesting to start the second half, but a Concord run would put the game away. The Mountain Lions would defeat D&E 88-78.
Concord led by nine at the break (40-31). The Mountain Lions would extend their halftime lead to 16 (51-35) with 16:46 left in the contest. The Senators would cut the lead to just eight (62-54) on a
Sam Rolle IV three-pointer with 9:41 remaining. Concord responded with a with 12-0 run to take a 20-point lead (74-54) with 6:50 to play. D&E's
Tylan Hutchison and
Patrick Wilburn would both hit three-pointers late to lower the Mountain Lions margin.
Ben Gilliam paced the Senators with 25 points and nine rebounds. Rolle had 24 points and a team high six assists.
Teemu Tumanoff finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
Concord was led by Amare Smith's 28 points followed by Lual Rahama 15.
Davis & Elkins drops to 6-20 overall and 4-16 in the Mountain East Conference.
The Mountain Lions improve to 13-13 overall and 10-10 in the MEC.
D&E returns home this Wednesday for Senior Night, hosting Frostburg State inside the McDonnell Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
