D&E Earns Hard-Fought Victory Over Frostburg State on Senior Night

ELKINS, W.Va. – Coach Dan Mondragon and his Davis & Elkins College basketball team have battled through some major adversity the last few weeks.  Tonight, they dressed only seven players.  Those seven players and their teammates dressed in sweats on the bench earned a hard-fought 76-68 victory over Frostburg State.  The game was crucial for the Senators tournament hopes.  In the event of a tie, D&E would win the tiebreaker by winning the head-to-head battle with Frostburg.  The Senators are currently in 10th place in the Mountain East Conference standings.  The top 10 make the trip to Wheeling.

Frostburg State jumped out to a 11-2 lead forcing Mondragon to call a timeout.  A Sam Rolle IV three-pointer with 8:53 left in the half would cut the Bobcat lead to just four.  Teemu Tumanoff would connect on a three to tie the game at 28 all with 6:35 remaining in the first half.  The two teams would play close the rest of the half with D&E taking a one-point lead into the locker room.  Davis & Elkins would extend their lead to seven (45-38) with 15:27 left in the contest.  Frostburg would not go away taking the lead 55-53 with 9:53 to play.  The Senators would regroup and hold for the senior night win.

Rolle paced the Senators, scoring 31 points and dishing out four assists.  Ben Gilliam contributed 17 points.  Cortney Walton had a team high nine rebounds followed by Tylan Hutchison eight.

Frostburg State was led by Micheal Tate Jr.  Tate scored 17 points followed by Jihar Williams 13.

With the win D&E improves to 7-20 overall and 5-16 in the MEC.

The Bobcats fall to 7-20 overall and 5-16 in the league.

The Senators travel to Buckhannon Saturday afternoon to take on West Virginia Wesleyan.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00pm inside the Rockefeller Center.
