ELKINS, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins men's basketball team led by Daniel Mondragon played host to eighth ranked West Liberty Wednesday night inside the McDonnel Center. The Hilltoppers used a late first half run to propel them to a 90-63 Mountain East Conference road win.
West Liberty took a 40-32 lead to the locker room. The Senators could not cut into the lead in the second half. The Hilltoppers started the second half as they finished the first, going on a 20-9 run to increase their lead to 19 points. West Liberty shot 50.8% from the floor and 46.7% from three on their way to victory.
Sam Rolle IV led D&E tonight with 27 points, shooting 9-19 from the floor and 8-9 from the free throw line. Breland Walton led the team in rebounds with six and assists with three. Ben Gilliam added 13 points, shooting 4-6 from the floor and 5-8 from the free throw line.
With the win West Liberty improves to 17-2 overall and 11-2 in the MEC.
The Senators fall to 6-12 overall and 4-9 in the conference.
Davis & Elkins returns to action this Saturday at Wheeling University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4pm.
