CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Coach
Daniel Mondragon's Senator basketball team traveled to Charleston tonight for a Mountain East Conference match-up. The University of Charleston pulled out a 92-76 victory.
Sam Rolle IV opened the scoring at the 19:46 mark of the first half, the 2-0 lead would be the only lead for the Senators on the night. UC would go on a 17-0 run midway through the first half and take a 50-30 lead to the locker room. The Golden Eagles would extend their lead to 27 (80-53) with 7:31 remaining in the contest, but the Senators would not quit, cutting the lead to 13 (84-71) with 3:16 left. UC would regroup and close out the game.
Breland Walton led D&E with a season high 28 points. Rolle had 19 followed by
Charleston Ponds eight.
Bryton Bissainthe had a team high 8 rebounds.
The Golden Eagles were led by Shunta Wilson with 18 points. Isaiah Gable had 16, followed by Jeremiah Keene and Lamont McManus with 13 each. Wilson also had a game high 12 rebounds.
With the loss D&E falls to 6-11 overall and 4-8 in the MEC.
Charleston improves to 13-3 overall and 9-2 in the league.
D&E returns to the court Wednesday night, hosting nationally ranked West Liberty. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm inside the McDonnell Center.
