BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins baseball fell on the road to West Virginia Wesleyan in doubleheader action, 14-7 and 14-4, on Thursday at Hank Ellis Field.
Najay King hit a home run in both ends of the doubleheader for Davis & Elkins, which fell behind during both contests.
THE RUNDOWN: GAME ONE

HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME ONE
- Davis & Elkins jumped out to a big lead in its first trip to the plate, pushing across five runs in the opening inning. Christian Ortega scored Alex Castaneda with a double before Najay King brought home a run on a groundout to second for a 2-0 lead.
- Troy McMillion smacked a single to center, scoring Ortega and Ryan Savitt walked with the bases loaded for the 5-0 advantage early.
- WVWC chipped away with one run in the first before pushing across five more in the second for the 6-5 edge. Two more runs in the third pushed the Bobcats in front, 8-5, before King lifted a ball out to center, bringing the Senators to within two.
- Five more runs in the bottom of the fourth put the game out of reach with Wesleyan surging ahead 13-6. Troy McMillion smacked a solo home run in the seventh, accounting for the final 14-7 margin.

HOW IT HAPPENED: GAME TWO
- The Senators jumped ahead to a 2-0 lead following singles from Hitch and John Arcaro.
- WV Wesleyan scored the next 13 runs of the game over the next five innings, while holding D&E off the scoreboard.
- King muscled his second home run of the doubleheader in the sixth, a two-run blast that trimmed the deficit to 13-4.
- The Bobcats added one more run in the sixth for a 14-4 edge, pulling its seniors throughout the second game of the doubleheader.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Cole Hitch entered to pitch in game one, tossing the final two innings and allowing just one run for D&E. Hitch started the game as the DH, posting a hit in the opening contest at the plate.
- Higgins and Arcaro notched two hits each in game two.
- Brent McMillion, who pitched in game one, also posted a pinch-hit single in the nightcap.
- The Senators used seven pitchers in the doubleheader, including position players Hitch and Chase DeGrood.
UP NEXT
Davis & Elkins and WVWC are set to finish out the regular season on Sunday, May 9 at Harpertown Field, but inclement weather may force a cancelation.
