Baseball Swept by West Virginia State on Saturday

ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins baseball dropped a pair of games to surging West Virginia State, falling 6-0 and 10-2, in doubleheader action on Saturday at Harpertown Field. 

Davis & Elkins (7-19) mustered just four hits in game one before surrendering a big inning in game two in the twinbill defeat. 

Chase DeGrood, Christian Ortega, Cole Hitch and John Arcaro collected hits for the Senators in game one. WVSU (26-7) hurler Ethan Lauchart unspooled another pitching gem for the Yellow Jackets, notching the complete game shutout with eight strikeouts. 

Jeremy Torres logged four innings on the mound in game one, before Rory Burke and Justin Wisniewski came on in relief. 

WVSU plated five runs in the fifth inning of game two, separating itself for the 10-2 triumph. Max Larimore tossed five innings for the Senators, while DeGrood notched a pair of hits. 

Ryan Savitt, Hitch and Ortega also added hits in game two. Oretga blasted his fourth home run of the season over the left field wall in the sixth. 

Trailing 1-0, Arcaro pushed across a run on a groundout. The Yellow Jackets added a run in the fourth to regain the lead at 2-1 before the big fifth inning. 

D&E finishes out the series with a doubleheader against WV State on Sunday, May 2 with first pitch set for 1:00 PM.
