Softball Falls to Surging Wesleyan

ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins softball dropped both ends of a home doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, falling to West Virginia Wesleyan by scores of 14-4 and 7-1 at Joni Smith Field.

Davis & Elkins (7-7) fell behind in game run as the visitors notched three runs in the first before adding two more in the second for a 5-0 lead. WV Wesleyan (7-3) plated six more in the fourth and added three runs in the fifth for the comfortable 14-0 edge in the opening game.

The Senators notched four runs in the final inning with an RBI single for Honesty Holt and a three-run home run for Maddie Lavelle. WV Wesleyan capped the game with a 14-4 run-rule victory after five innings.

D&E kept things close with Wesleyan, winners of six consecutive games, until the Bobcat bats broke out in the sixth. Jenna Evans tossed four scoreless innings in the circle as D&E answered back to tie the game at one in the fourth following a Lilly Saucedo single.

The Bobcats plated one run and held a one nothing lead until Saucedo's single. WVWC took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a single and error that advanced the runners before putting things out of reach with five more in the sixth.

Five different players registered a hit for D&E in game two, while Holt walked twice at the plate. Hannah Hudson nabbed a win and save in the circle for WVWC.

D&E is back in action on Saturday, April 11 for a road doubleheader with Charleston (W.Va.) beginning at 2:00 PM.
