CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins softball came up short in both ends of a road doubleheader to Charleston (W.Va.) on Saturday, losing 6-3 in game one and 8-0 in a run-rule shortened game two.
Maddie Lavelle had a two-RBI day for Davis & Elkins (7-9) in game one with
Honesty Holt also recording an RBI for the Senators.
Jenna Evans struck out four in the circle during game one while
Haley Grindstaff took the loss in game two.
Charleston (17-5) opened up early advantages in both games on its way to a sweep. The Golden Eagles held a 3-1 lead after the second inning of game one before D&E tied things up in the third. UC added a single run in its half of the third before notching two more in the fourth for the 6-3 margin in game one.
D&E could muster just two hits in the second game as UC jumped ahead 4-0 in the first before plating four more in the second.
Davis & Elkins is back on the diamond for a doubleheader with West Virginia State on Sunday, April 11 at 1:00 PM.
