Men's Lacrosse Drops Home Opener to AB

ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins men's lacrosse fell behind in the second quarter and could not recover, falling 14-11 to nearby Alderson Broaddus in the team's home opener on Wednesday night at Nuttall Field.

Davis & Elkins (1-4) led 7-6 in the second quarter before Alderson Broaddus (1-5) rattled off five consecutive markers to end the frame and take an 11-5 lead into intermission. Nolan Morrison paced the D&E attack with six goals and two assists, while Tyler Kolodka posted two goals and four assists.

Sean Adams scooped up nine ground balls and provided some stability at the faceoff dot for the Senators with eight wins at the X. David Thorne Jr. made nine stops in the cage for D&E, which was outshot 42-37 on the night.

Conner Calmbacher fired home five goals for the visiting Battlers.

Trailing 2-0, Morrison put the Senators on the board off a pass from Kolodka, adding two more markers at 5:08 and 4:12 in the first to tie things at three. Kolodka ripped home a shot, this time off a pass from Morrison, to push the Senators to their first lead of the night at 4-3.

AB tied the score in the first and took a 5-4 lead with the first goal of the second as the team's traded blows in a physical matchup. Trailing 5-4, Bryce McBee and Adams scored on unassisted tallies at 10:56 and 10:50 in the second to take back momentum with a 6-5 lead. Adams won the faceoff, picked up the ground ball in stride and launched home the goal in short order to put D&E back in front.

Morrison broke a tie with his fourth goal of the evening for a 7-6 lead before the Battlers closed the half with a run. AB did have a goal waved off by the officiating crew during the halftime intermission due to a deep pocket as the score stood at 10-7.

AB did not trail the rest of the way despite a three-goal push from D&E in the final 10 minutes. Travis Scala and Tycen Allan caused three turnovers each for D&E.

The Senators return to action on Wednesday, April 14 for a rescheduled road matchup at third-ranked Mercyhurst, beginning at 2:00 PM.
