ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins baseball answered back in game two with a 10-4 win to split with Alderson Broaddus in a home doubleheader on Saturday.
Davis & Elkins (3-7) fell 8-0 in game one before answering back with a 10-4 game two triumph. The Senators posted seven runs over their final two trips to the plate in the nightcap, paced by a trio of two-hit performances from
Alex Castaneda,
Cole Hitch and
Christian Ortega.
Saturday's nightcap marked the first contest that D&E plated 10 runs or more in a single game since the 2018 season, spanning over 60 games.
McKinley Scott earned the win on the mound with his 4.2 innings of work in the second game, while
Hank Shultz battled for his first save of the season with a hard-fought 2.1 innings in relief.
Down 3-2, D&E posted three runs in the bottom of the fifth as the lead ballooned to 6-2.
Chase DeGrood and Ortega smacked run-scoring doubles and the Senators manufactured the third run of the frame.
Ryan Savitt led off the sixth inning of game two with a double before
Luis Diaz pulled back a bunt and dropped a single down the right field line for a 7-2 advantage. After a walk for
Andre Ramirez, the Senators kept building their lead following a single from
Miles Williams, pushing the score to 8-2. Ramirez scored on a DeGrood sacrifice fly before Hitch smacked an RBI single, making it a 10-2 game.
AB added two runs in the seventh to make things interesting, but Shultz shut the door to earn the save and hand the Senators a split.
D&E mustered just two hits in game one as AB hurler Aidan Massad tossed the complete game shutout, complete with 10 strikeouts.
Justin Wisniewski logged three innings of relief, surrendering just two hits in his first home appearance of the season.
