ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins women's lacrosse could not answer back from a slow start in an 11-7 loss to Notre Dame (Ohio) on Saturday afternoon at a crisp Nuttall Field.
Davis & Elkins (5-3) surrendered the first three goals of the game to NDC (8-3) before falling behind 5-1 with just over 16 minutes left in the first. The Senators did not go quietly, however, climbing back to within 7-4 at the break.
Angelina Horan had three goals and an assist to pace the Senators, collecting four draw controls on the afternoon.
Emily Smith added two markers of her own with
Paige Graff and
Ryann Sumner positing one tally each.
Marissa Cuevas had nine stops, including some timely ones in the second half as D&E looked to charge back. Unassisted markers from Horan and Smith sliced the NDC lead to 10-7 before the Falcons delivered the dagger with just over five minutes left.
Mackenzie Smegal and
Hanna Bond had three caused turnovers each, leading the charge defensively for the Senators on Saturday. Amanda Paino ripped 10 shots and scored four times for the visitors.
Davis & Elkins is back in action on Thursday, April 22 for a road clash at Alderson Broaddus, beginning at 6:00 PM.
