Second Half Surge Propels D&E Men's Lacrosse to Home Win on Saturday

ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins men's lacrosse registered a regular season sweep of Wheeling following a 19-11 home triumph on Saturday at Nuttall Field.

Davis & Elkins (2-4) answered back from a 1-0 deficit with the next three goals and did not look back. Bryce McBee launched in five markers for the Senators, adding four ground balls in a strong outing.

Tyler Kolodka continued his stellar offensive production for D&E with five goals and three assists. Jackson Woodworth chipped in three goals with Jakob Makarenko and Nolan Morrison adding two each. Sean Adams and Gabriel Rager scooped up nine ground balls each, while David Thorne Jr. turned aside eight shots for the Senators.

A seven-goal outburst, spanning late in the third into the fourth, pushed D&E ahead 19-9 and provided enough separation. The Senators owned a 53-35 edge in shots, also boasting a 53-29 advantage in ground balls and a 23-10 margin in faceoffs.

Zach Lontayao opened the scoring spree for the Senators at the 1:10 mark in the third quarter. Kolodka finished one just eight seconds later to swing momentum in favor of the Senators at 14-9 entering the fourth.

D&E continued to wear down the Cardinals with consecutive goals from Woodworth, including a man-up marker, before Makarenko, McBee and Kolodka capped the seven-goal swing.

The Senators had a season-high in goals (19), shots (53), man-up goals (5), ground balls (53), caused turnovers (16) and faceoffs (23) as part of the well-rounded triumph. Saturday marked the first home win for D&E since April 11, 2019 against Alderson Broaddus.

D&E is back in action on Friday, April 23 for a road clash with AB, starting at 4:00 PM.
