ELKINS, W.Va. — Davis & Elkins women's soccer scored less than 30 seconds into the game during a 1-1 draw against West Virginia Wesleyan during the regular season finale on Friday night. Seniors
Alexandra Cantarelli and
Karin Rosario were recognized pregame in the home finale for the Senators.
Davis & Elkins (3-4-1) channeled the energy and emotion of Senior Night into an early tally from
Azalea Ayala before West Virginia Wesleyan (4-2-2) responded back with the game-tying marker in the seventh minute.
Ayala finished off the early marker off a feed from
Alexa Karsel for the early 1-0 advantage.
While both sides had quality looks, neither team could break the ice on a frigid night through two overtime sessions.
Anna Kerth turned aside 11 shots for D&E in goal as WVWC owned a 24-10 edge in shots.
WVWC clinched a spot in the upcoming MEC Tournament following the draw, finishing just ahead of D&E with eight division points. The top two teams from each MEC division advance to the postseason.
Davis & Elkins returns to action for the traditional fall season this September.
