WHEELING, W.Va. -- Ninth-ranked Davis & Elkins men's soccer concluded the regular season with five consecutive wins following a 4-2 road victory at Wheeling on Friday night.
Anderson Marroquin scored three times for Davis & Elkins (7-1) and
James Gill added the final tally for the Senators. The Senators clinched a spot in the upcoming MEC Tournament, earning the number two seed, which results in a first round home playoff match.
Marroquin scored twice in the first half, coming in the 17th and 31st minutes, before pushing the visitors ahead 3-0 with a strike in the 48th minute. Wheeling (1-7) answered back with two goals of its own in the 57th and 86th minutes, slicing the D&E lead to 3-2.
Gill buried a feed from
Gianluca Fiorini, his second assist of the day, for the insurance marker in the 89th minute. The Senators held a 13-9 advantage in shots on the day, placing seven on target.
After taking control in the opening half, Wheeling pushed back in the second stanza. Gill had an attempt smothered in the 88th minute before launching one home in the 89th minute.
