Women’s Lacrosse Rolls to Home Win Against WV Wesleyan

ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins quickly expanded its lead to a 10-goal margin to start the running clock in the first half during an 18-1 shellacking of West Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon at a cloudy Nuttall Field.

Davis & Elkins (4-2) raced out to a 12-0 lead in the first half and did not look back, outshooting West Virginia Wesleyan (0-6) 35-10 on the day.

Emily Smith paced the D&E attack with five goals and an assist, while Paige Graff, Hanna Bond and Angelina Horan fired home three goals each. Sarah Timmons notched two markers, as did Griselle Rosado and Haley Leavines.

Marissa Cuevas made seven saves in between the pipes, surrendering just one goal on the afternoon.

Sarah Zapata had a team-high four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

D&E wasted little time getting on the board after Bond won the opening draw control. She later raced in off a free position for the early 1-0 lead.

Graff slotted home back-to-back tallies, pushing the Senator lead to 5-0. D&E notched two more markers in short order, coming from Smith and Timmons, for a 9-0 edge.

The Senators kept their foot on the gas as the lead swelled to 12-0 before the Bobcats got on the board with under five minutes remaining in the half.

Horan and Timmons capped the first half scoring as D&E went to intermission with a comfortable 14-1 lead. D&E added four more goals in the second half, including the first for Rosado since the 2019 season.

Davis & Elkins remains home, welcoming Charleston (W.Va.) on Wednesday, April 14 for a 4:00 PM clash.
