Women's Lacrosse Shoots the Lights Out in Home Opener

ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins women's lacrosse continued its best start in program history with a convincing 13-4 victory over Alderson Broaddus in the team's home opener on Wednesday night at a rainy and windy Nuttall Field.

Davis & Elkins (3-0) raced ahead to an 8-0 lead in the opening half before the lead swelled to 10 in the second half for a running clock. Emily Smith had four goals with an assist and Paige Graff posted three goals of her own on eight shots. Hanna Bond added a pair of goals and assists for the Senators, which caused 13 turnovers on the night in a sloppy conference contest.

Angelina Horan scooped up six ground balls and Marissa Cuevas stopped 10 shots on the evening.

Smith finished a feed from Horan for a 1-0 lead and D&E was off and running. Bond and Graff finished shots for a 3-0 lead before Ryann Sumner and Horan notched shorthanded goals for a 5-0 edge.

Smith, Courtnie Couch and Graff cashed in for the 8-0 advantage before Alderson Broaddus (0-4) found the back of the net with 11:47 remaining in the opening half. D&E cashed in on three more tallies before the intermission for an 11-2 lead at the break. Smith and Bond scored in the second half with the clock running for the 13-4 margin of victory.

Wednesday's win marked the first 3-0 start in program history for the Senators, which played at home for the first time since the shortened 2020 season.

D&E finished the night with 32 shot attempts and 20 ground balls.

The Senators hit the road, visiting Notre Dame (Ohio) on Saturday, April 3 at 2:00 PM.
