D&E Softball Swept by Concord

ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins softball fell behind in both games as Concord emerged with a Saturday sweep of the Senators at Joni Smith Field.
 
Davis & Elkins (4-4) had its four-game winning streak halted with 11-3 and 12-3 losses. Concord (7-9, 5-3 MEC) pushed its winning streak to six consecutive contests.
 
GAME ONE – Concord 11, Davis & Elkins 3 (Five Innings)
The Mountain Lions used a pair of grand slams to pull ahead in the run-rule contest. Davis & Elkins surrendered five runs in the top of the second before the mountain Lions added two more in the fourth for a 7-0 cushion.
 
Maddie Lavelle belted her second home run of the season, and second in as many days, in the fourth inning. Kristen Malloy added a solo shot in the fifth and Honesty Holt chopped a single to right center to score Kailynn Parks.
 
Tierra Peters cracked another grand slam for CU in the top of the fifth, widening the margin to 11-1.
 
Ava Willis made the start in the circle and Haley Grindstaff closed out the shortened contest in relief.
 
GAME TWO – Concord 12, Davis & Elkins 3
D&E fell behind 6-1 after four innings and allowed 22 hits to the Mountain Lions in a game two defeat.
 
Lilly Saucedo put D&E on the board with a run-scoring single in the third before smacking a two-run home run in the fifth to trim the deficit in half at 6-3.
 
The Mountain Lions added a run in the sixth before breaking out for five more in the top half of the seventh.
 
Jenna Evans tossed a complete game in the circle for the Senators.
 
UP NEXT
Davis & Elkins is back home on Friday, April 2 for a noon doubleheader with Notre Dame (Ohio).
