Fracker Earns First Win at D&E in Softball Sweep of Fairmont

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins softball notched a doubleheader road sweep of Fairmont State as head coach Elle Fracker earned her first win at the helm of the program on Sunday afternoon.

Davis & Elkins (2-2) opened the day with a 1-0 triumph before completing the sweep with a 3-2 decision. Haley Grindstaff came around to score on a wild pitch for the only run of the opening contest.

The Senators charged back in their last opportunity at the plate in game two, hanging three runs on the board in the seventh before closing the game out. Kailynn Parks posted the go-ahead single in the seventh and Jenna Evans shut the door to cap the complete game in the circle.

The opening game win was also the 100th in the head coaching career for Fracker, who took over the program back in September.

Game One
Grindstaff and Fairmont state pitcher Cierra Chastain each went the distance in the circle in a low-scoring first game. Grindstaff continued her strong start to the young season with her second career shutout win for D&E.

She also scored the winning run for the Senators, crossing the plate on a wild pitch for a 1-0 edge. The Fighting Falcons were limited to just a pair of hits in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Lilly Saucedo went 2-for-3 at the dish, while Honesty Holt and Grindstaff added one hit each.

Game Two
Fairmont State (4-2) struck for its lone two runs in the bottom of the first before Evans hit her stride and kept the Falcons off the board the rest of the way.

The Senators pushed across three runs in their last chance at the plate to emerge with a 3-2 lead. Grindstaff smacked a leadoff double to center before Maddie Lavelle singled up the middle, placing two runners on.

Mia Ely drove in the opening run of the frame for D&E with a single to center before Sharon Morales walked to load the bases. Kristen Malloy tied the game with a sacrifice fly, plating Lavelle for a 2-2 tie.

Parks ended the extended inning at the plate for the visitors with a run-scoring single to right for the 3-2 advantage. Evans worked around a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh, sending the Falcons down in order to seal the victory.
