ELKINS, W.Va. -- Davis & Elkins women's tennis opened the season with a 6-1 setback to Fairmont State on Monday afternoon at the Thomas Tennis Center.
Taylour Newman and
Cara Long combined for a win at No. 1 doubles before Newman picked up a 6-2, 6-6 (ret.) win at No. 1 singles.
Carter Nettina went back and forth with Fairmont's Isadora Matos in an extended 5-7, 7-5, 4-6 matchup at No. 2 singles.
Karin Rosario and Long battled in 3-6, 1-6 defeats at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. Monday marked the first of two home matches this week for Davis & Elkins, which will look to get into a groove now that competitions have resumed.
