Women’s Basketball Caps Season With Road Loss at West Virginia Wesleyan

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – Jamiyah Johnson scored a game-high 16 points and added another double-double with 13 rebounds as the Davis & Elkins women's basketball dropped its season finale to West Virginia Wesleyan, 75-56, on Saturday afternoon.

West Virginia Wesleyan (5-10) outscored Davis & Elkins (2-13), 22-12, in the third quarter to pull away for good. Peyton Mohler notched 12 points and grabbed five rebounds for D&E and Allie Taylor had seven markers.

Courtney Wilfong helped the Bobcats to a season sweep of the Senators with 14 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Malaika Kimmons added 14 more and secured nine rebounds, while Brittany Stawovy finished with 11 points.

The Bobcats raced out to a 16-2 edge in fast break points and held a 44-22 edge in paint points on the afternoon. The contest capped the first season at the helm for head coach Rachel Swartz, who has hit the recruiting trail hard since arriving in Elkins.

Amiah Banks had an early triple off a feed from Jessica Eadsforth-Yates to put the Senators on the board, trailing 4-3. A Summer Matlack triple lifted the Bobcats to a nine-point edge at 14-5 before Eadsforth-Yates answered with a trey of her own.

Lena Lee knocked down two shots at the foul line as D&E trailed by three, but the hosts held a 19-13 lead after one. WVWC maintained its multiple possession lead, later stretching it to double figures around midway through the second.

A basket and foul shot for Mohler brought the halftime deficit to six for D&E. Mohler converted the first hoop of the second half as D&E trailed by four before the hosts used a 12-2 run to pull away for good.

Davis & Elkins will begin the new season this November.
