ATHENS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins went cold in the second half as Concord ran away with a 74-54 victory on Saturday afternoon inside the Carter Center.
Davis & Elkins (2-10) only mustered 20 second half points, going 9-of-35 from the floor over the final two quarters.
Jessica Eadsforth-Yates had 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists to lead the Senators.
Allie Taylor droped in 12 points and added three steals, while
Jamiyah Johnson finished with 10 points and six boards.
Concord (6-5) placed three in double digits, including a game-high 18 points for Maddie Radcliff off the bench. Riley Fitzwater combatted a slow start for 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Jasiah Smith posted 14 markers. The Mountain Lions, who canned 11 three-point field goals, shot 9-of-17 from the floor in the final quarter. Concord also held a decisive 41-13 edge in bench points.
Peyton Mohler converted a putback for an early 4-3 lead before pushing that advantage to 7-3 at 5:29 in the opening quarter. A barrage of three pointers helped the Mountain Lions move ahead 12-11 with 2:17 in the first.
An 11-0 Concord run lifted the Mountain Lions to a 26-19 second quarter lead until consecutive treys for
Lena Lee and Eadsforth-Yates made it 26-25.
Marissa Berlin picked the pocket of Fitzwater and Eadsforth-Yates hit a jumper on the other end with 3:15 left in the half for a 27-26 D&E lead.
One more trey for Eadsforth-Yates handed D&E a 34-30 lead until Concord ended the half with a 9-0 run to take a 39-34 lead at the break. The Mountain Lions went 9-of-17 from beyond the arc to jump ahead.
The Mountain Lions used a 9-0 spurt to expand the lead to 50-42 with just under five minutes showing on the third quarter clock. The Senators were held scoreless over the final 4:24 of the period as Concord took a 53-44 edge into the fourth.
Keely Lundy cashed in from deep and Smith stole the ensuing inbounds pass for an easy lay-in as Concord moved ahead 60-44. Johnson hit a layup with 7:06 remaining, ending a scoreless stretch that spanned nearly eight minutes.
Concord maintained the pressure and held on down the stretch for the final 74-54 margin.
Davis & Elkins is back in action on Wednesday, February 17 to face third-ranked Charleston (W.Va.) on the road at 5:00 PM.
