Elkins, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins get their first home win against Bluefield State College, 61-58.
In a game where there were six lead changes, a lead of 13-points by the Senators, and leading for a little over 34-minutes of the contest, it came down to the final possession. The last time Bluefield State College would lead the game was coming out of the first quarter. By the time the second quarter media timeout happened, with 4:46 to play, the Senators had a 21-16 lead and would not give it up despite the efforts by Bluefield State. Davis & Elkins would extend their lead to twelve heading into the locker room at the half, 30-18.
Bluefield State would outscore the Senators 18-16 in the third quarter and cut the D&E lead to ten points. At the game's final media timeout, Bluefield had the lead down to single digits. Coming out of a timeout with 31.3 seconds to play, D&E would hit a free throw which would be the last point they would score for the night. Making the score 61-56 in the Senators favor. Bluefield State had a table side inbounds with 17.7 left to play where they would score another basket making it a one possession game. That would be the final basket scored in the game, and the Senators would hold on for the victory.
There was one double-double per team in Saturday's game. Bluefield State's Derricka Bramwell would go for 19 points and 19 rebounds, and D&E's
Peyton Mohler would also have the same number of points and rebounds, with 11.
Marissa Berlin for the Senators would lead all scorers with 23 points and was one rebound shy of a double-double.
Davis & Elkins will be in action again on December 30
th when they take on UNC-Greensboro in an exhibition.
