ELKINS, W.Va. -- The Mountain East Conference regular season Champion Davis & Elkins Senators jumped to an early lead and never looked back en route to a 4-1 victory over Frostburg State in the MEC Men's Soccer Tournament Semifinal.
Thirteen minutes into the opening half of the contest, all-MEC first-team defender
Gianluca Fiorini found the back of the goal to begin the Senator attack. All-MEC first-team mid-fielder
David Jara and MEC Offensive Player of the Year
Daniel Cerezo added assists on the Fiorini goal.
Seven minutes after the first goal,
Yavi Ortiz tacked on another goal to put D&E up 2-0 over the Bobcats. Honorable Mention all-MEC team member,
Davide Materazzi assisted on the goal.
A collision near the Senator goal to start the second half of play resulted in a penalty kick opportunity for Frostburg State. Daniel Juresic then scored to make the score 2-1 Senators.
Materazzi added a goal in the sixty-seventh minute off a Fiorini assist and in the eightieth minute, all-MEC first-team midfielder
Haruki Yamazaki tacked on the final goal of the contest to put the Senators up 4-1. Ortiz provided the assist.
The Senators held Frostburg State to nine shots and only two shots on goal.
Davis & Elkins will face the University of Charleston on Sunday, November 14 at 1pm at Nuttall Field on the campus of Davis & Elkins College for the MEC Tournament Championship.
