Men’s Lacrosse Drops Road Matchup at Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Davis & Elkins men's lacrosse continued its season-opening skid with a 17-4 defeat to Lander on Friday to conclude the team's Spring Break trip.

D&E (0-6, 0-1 G-MAC) received its goals from four different players, as Aidan O'Dwyer, Nolan Morrison, Matthew Dyck and Trevor Kennedy found the back of the net for the Senators. David Thorne Jr. was again peppered in net, making 19 saves for the vistors. Gabriel Rager and Dyck had six ground balls each as D&E mustered just 16 shots in the game.

Tyler Kralj fired home three goals on four shots to pace Lander (4-2) offensively, while goalie Liam Mackey stopped 10 shots.

Lander opened a 4-0 lead to start the game and Mackey answered with early saves on Morrison at 12:15 and Kyle Durec at 8:23. O'Dwyer carved into the slot and buried a feed from Trevor Kennedy for a man-up marker, brining the Senator to within 4-1 with 3:37 left in the first. The Bearcats responded just over 30 seconds later for a 5-1 lead, proving to be the final tally of the quarter as Thorne Jr. stopped three shots over the last 1:12, including a final flurry from the hosts as the frame ended.

Lander recorded the only two goals of the second quarter to go into the halftime break with a 7-1 lead. Morrison and Dyck scored at 10:58 and 9:00 in the third to trim the deficit to 8-3, but Lander ended the quarter with the next four goals for a 12-3 edge heading into the fourth.

O'Dwyer rifled a shot that was saved at 11:58 and Thorne Jr. answered on the other end with a save at 11:21. The hosts ultimately scored the first two goals of the quarter for a 14-3 edge before Kennedy answered with his sixth goal of the season, coming off a crisp pass from Morrison at 3:41.

The Bearcats scored three more times to close the game for a 17-4 margin.

Davis & Elkins returns home on Thursday, March 12 for a 4:00 PM matchup with Lewis from Nuttall Field.
