Senators Come Up Short In Loss To Lander

THE RUNDOWN
  • Final Score: Lander 20, D&E 17
  • Records: Lander (3-4), D&E (0-2)

KEY SEQUENCE
  • After tying things up at 3-3 in the first period of action a scoring drought by the Senators allowed Lander to jump out to an 8-3 lead. The Senators were unable to even the score as Lander controlled the lead through the rest of the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Senators jumped out to a hot start early as Haley Leavines notched the first goal of the game with 28:10 in the first period. Lander would go on to take a 3-2 lead with 22:45 left in the first period.
  • Emily Smith evened up the score for the Senators at 3-3 with 22:22 in the first period of play, however, Lander responded with eight-straight goals within a span of three minutes to lead 8-3 with 15:50 to go in the first period. Deep into the first period, the Senators surged back off goals from Taylor Baker, Emily Smith and Angelina Horan.
  • The Senators would trail 10-8 at the break with a goal from Horan, bringing them within two. Goals from Baker, Horan and Smith brought the Senators within one with 25:38 left in the second half of action.
  • The Senators once again went on a scoring drought as Lander took a 16-11 lead with 20:04 to go in the second period. Two goals apiece from Horan and Smith put the Senators within two with a little under nine minutes to go, however, Lander prevailed capturing a 20-17 win over the Senators.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Smith led the way for the Senators with six goals, while Horan contributed with five.
  • Horan and Smith each had four ground balls with Mackenzie Smegal and Surelys Baez grabbing two apiece.

  • The Senators continue their campaign down south as they take on Southern Wesleyan this Saturday.
