Men’s Lacrosse Falls in Spirited Contest Against Chowan on Saturday

ELKINS, W. Va. - Davis & Elkins men's lacrosse continued the start of the season on Saturday against the Chowan University Hawks, ultimately coming up short in a 16-7 decision at a sun-soaked Nuttall Field. 
 
Tyler Kolodka and Matthew Dyck added two goals each, but D&E could not overcome a long scoreless drought in the first half. Patrick Egan rifled seven goals on 12 shots to lead Chowan.
 
Dyck was quick to get the first goal of the game, lifting the Senators to a 1-0 lead at 12:27. The Hawks pounced immediately, scoring a goal just seconds later tying up the game. 
 
Tyler Kolodka scored a shorthanded marker with just one second left in the first period, trimming the Chowan lead to 3-2. 
 
Seven more goals would follow for Chowan between the first and second period as the Hawks went up 8-2 at the half. 
 
Kolodka scored off a pass from Trevor Kennedy to break a long drought for the Senators, trailing 9-3. The Hawks added another goal to the scoreboard, but Kyle Durec responded with a tally of his own, bring the score to 10-4 in favor of the Hawks in the third period. Dyck added another goal for the Senators, who entered the fourth period trailing 11-5.
 
The Hawks began the fourth period with two goals, but Nolan Morrison followed with a goal, making the score 13-6. Chowan posted two more goals in the fourth before Aidan O'Dwyer added a goal for the Senators, making it 7-14. 
 
David Thorne Jr spent the entire game in the goal for the second time in his career and had 15 saves for the Senators.

GAME NOTES
  • Play was start and stop on several occasions Saturday as the teams combined for 14 penalty minutes.
  • Four of Kolodka's five shots were on goal as the sophomore led the team with four points.
  • Chowan used a 5-0 scoring advantage in the second quarter to pull away.
