 GAME ONE: THE RUNDOWN
  • Score: Davis & Elkins 9, Mercyhurst 4
  • Records: Davis & Elkins (6-3) | Mercyhurst (0-1)
  • Location: Sue Morris Sports Complex – Glenville, W. Va.

KEY SEQUENCE
Davis & Elkins settled in offensively, pushing across seven combined runs over the course of the fifth and sixth innings. Honesty Holt launched a three-run homer in the fifth to hand the Senators a 5-4 lead and the D&E continued to piled it on over in their next trip to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ryn Boelter began the scoring with a two-run blast in the first inning, plating Holt as D&E pounced to an early lead.
  • Mercyhurst answered back, tallying the next three runs to take a 3-2 edge. A solo home run handed the Lakers a 4-2 lead, but Holt shifted the momentum back to the Senators in the fifth with her three-run shot, the first of her career.
  • D&E tacked on three more runs in the sixth for a 9-4 lead, coming on a bases loaded walk, groundout and sacrifice fly.

GAME NOTES
  • Holt went 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk, adding her first career home run in an impressive afternoon at the plate.
  • Jenna Evans picked up the win in the circle after pitching the final 2.2 innings. She logged five strikeouts and did not allow a run to close out the victory.
  • Boelter also added a three-hit effort as four Senators collected multiple knocks.

GAME TWO: THE RUNDOWN
  • Score: Davis & Elkins 10, Mercyhurst 3
  • Records: Davis & Elkins (7-3) | Mercyhurst (0-2)
  • Location: Sue Morris Sports Complex – Glenville, W. Va.

KEY SEQUENCE
Five runs in the third inning handed D&E a comfortable lead, with the backbreaking blow proving to be a bases-clearing triple down the left field line by Kristen Malloy.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • D&E began the game with a 1-0 lead as the away team on the scoreboard, collecting a run in the top of the first. Holt raced home on a third inning single from Kayla Gibson, setting the table for Malloy two batters later. Amy Fincham plated Malloy with a double to left center for a 5-0 advantage as the D&E bats took control of the game.
  • The Senators tacked on another run in the fifth on a sharply-hit single by Kelsie Millner that plated Olivia Smith for a 6-0 lead. The Lakers added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the deficit to 6-2.
  • D&E pushed back to outscore Mercyhurst 2-1 over the final two innings to secure the 10-4 triumph.

GAME NOTES
  • Holt continued where she left off in game one, adding three more hits, two runs scored and an RBI in the nightcap.
  • Millner notched two hits, but was stout defensively from her shortstop position. She notched three putouts defensively and made several standout plays on the defensive end.
  • D&E posted a season-high 16 hits in the win.
  • Boelter picked up another win in the circle, firing five innings and allowing just one earned run.

UP NEXT
  • The Senators return to Tennessee on Sunday, February 23 for a doubleheader with Tusculum beginning at 1:00 PM.
  • This will be the second time Davis & Elkins has played Tusculum this season, with the first matchup called a no-contest after weather forced a cancelation.
