ELKINS, W. Va. -Â Davis & Elkins established control early in an impressive Mountain East Conference victory, controlling the boards against the visiting Fairmont State Falcons in its 64-48 win on Wednesday night in the McDonnell Center. D&E outrebounded Fairmont State 58-22, and the Falcons struggled from long-range, going just 3-for-22 from beyond the arc.
The two offenses got off to a slow start, but
Sydney Nestor's three-pointer gave the Senators their first lead with 3:25 left in the opening quarter. A pair of
Peyton Mohler free-throws and
Courtney Roth's trey gave D&E a 14-10 into the first break. Sharp-shooting kept the Senators on top through the second quarter, taking a 29-24 lead into halftime. A fairly quiet third quarter followed, as the Senators inched closer to victory behind their strong inside presence. D&E would hold the Falcons scoreless through the first six minutes of the final quarter, scoring ten straight points to pull away for the victory.
Jamiyah Johnson finished with 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Nestor helped control the boards with 11 rebounds to go with her four assists and eight points. Mohler added 11 points, and
Jay Kilpatrick was a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe to finish with 11 points.
