FINDLAY, Ohio -
The Davis & Elkins College Senators Softball team played four games over the weekend in Ohio, taking on the Cedarville Yellow Jackets and Findlay Oilers in doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday respectively.
In Game 1 against Cedarville, the Senators' offense was held scoreless by the Yellow Jackets' starting pitcher in a 6-0 decision.
Alyssa Cairns and
Jade Allee both hit doubles in Game 1, but no runs were able to cross the plate.
In Game 2, Cedarville scored four runs in the final two innings to win 4-3.
Brittany Wade started it off for the Senators, plating
Jordan Crawford in the 4th inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Rhetta Persinger would bring home
Kaitlyn Giffin as well in the fourth to lead 2-0.
Kailynn Parks scored on
Kelsie Millner's RBI double in the fifth inning for a 3-0 D&E lead.
Cedarville was able to score two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, however, to defeat the Senators 4-3.
In Game 1 on Saturday against Findlay,
Jade Allee pitched a complete game for her sixth win of the season, as the Senators won 6-3.
Rhetta Persinger had a monster day for D&E, with two home runs and four RBI, and added three more RBIs and a homer in Game 2.
Rhetta Persinger started off the scoring with her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to give D&E an early 1-0 lead.
After
Brittany Wade plated two runs on a Findlay error, the Senators regained a 3-2 lead.
Rhetta Persinger would hit home run number five of the season, a huge three-run insurance shot to score
Brittany Wade and
Alyssa Cairns, and give the Senators a 6-2 advantage.
Findlay would score one more run in the fifth, but the Senators held for a 6-3 win.
In Game 2, the Senators built a 3-2 lead early, as
Jade Allee tripled in
Katelyn Cobb, then scored on
Amy Fincham's base hit. Fincham would score on a wild pitch to cap off the three run inning.
Findlay brought home five runs in the second, but
Rhetta Persinger's three run bomb brought the score back to 7-6.
Payton Maddy and
Jordan Crawford would score on Persinger's sixth homer of the season.
Findlay would hold off the Senators for an 11-7 win in Game 2.
The Senators will travel to Ursuline this week to return to GMAC action.
