The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team fell in a close match to regionally-ranked West Liberty, 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the Thomas Tennis Center.
West Liberty, who is ranked #7 in the Atlantic Region by the ITA, picked up the doubles point in tightly contested matches.
At #2 doubles,
Karin Rosario and
Valentine Schwartz were sharp in a 7-5 victory.
Taylour Newman and
Ester Bolmenas rallied from a 4-0 deficit at #1 doubles to tie the match at 4-4, but were held off in a 6-4 final.
Julianna Singleton picked up a win by default at #6 singles to tie the match 1-1.
West Liberty struck back with wins at #1 (6-4, 6-3) and #4 singles (6-0, 7-5), to take a 3-1 match lead.
Ester Bolmenas rallied from a set down to force a deciding third set, but came up short in a 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 match at #3 singles.
Laura Vargas was able to complete her comeback after dropping the first set, holding off her opponent in an exciting match that ended in a third set tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).
The Senators will return to action on Friday against Tiffin in a big GMAC matchup. Start time is set for 2 PM at Ridgeview Racquet Club in Morgantown.
