ELKINS -
The Senator Softball team split with visiting Hillsdale in a Tuesday doubleheader at Joni Smith Softball Field.
Hillsdale was dominant in winning Game 1 in a 5-inning, 11-0 game.
Kelsie Millner,
Brittany Wade, and
Ryn Boelter all had base hits in the loss.
Game 2 went the other way for D&E.
Haley Grindstaff was solid on the mound, allowing just four hits and two earned runs in a complete game victory.
Kelsie Millner's aggressive baserunning started the scoring off for the Senators, stealing third and scoring on a throwing error to give D&E a 1-0 lead.
Jordan Crawford extended the lead to 2-0, scoring
Morgan Tandarich on a fourth-inning sacrifice fly.
After giving up a run to the Chargers,
Rhetta Persinger scorched a solo homerun, her seventh of the season, to give D&E a 3-1 lead. Persinger currently sits sixth in the conference with that mark.
Hillsdale would charge back to tie the game at 3 in the seventh inning, but
Alyssa Cairns would score on a walk-off error off
Jade Allee's hit to center field to break the tie and send the Senators home with a 4-3 victory.
It's a quick turnaround for the Senators, as they host Salem in a doubleheader this afternoon at 3 and 5 PM.
