Wheeling Jesuit Defeats Women's Lacrosse 15-14 in Overtime

ELKINS, W.Va. -

Wheeling Jesuit scored 52 seconds into overtime to defeat the Senators' Women's Lacrosse team 15-14 in an exciting back-and-forth game on Wednesday afternoon at Nuttall Field.

The Senators opened up scoring with Ryann Sumner only two minutes into the game.

After that, the teams kept scoring back and forth. D&E would score one, and the Cardinals would respond quickly with another goal.

Angelina Horan played a quality game, scoring four times in the first half, followed by Hannah Bond, who scored three important goals. Sumner still scored another one in the period and junior Kathleen Shaw also got one in.

Davis & Elkins took a 11-9 advantage into halftime.

Right after the break, the visitors put strong pressure on D&E's defense, scoring three goals in a row, and taking the lead for the first time in the game.

However, the Senators struck back to regain the lead. Horan and Bond scored one goal each to give D&E the lead back. Horan added one more, but the Cardinals managed to tie the game and take it to overtime 14-14.

Wheeling Jesuit won the draw control to start overtime, and broke into Davis & Elkins' defense, scoring the winning goal 14-15.

The Senators will return to action next Tuesday as they face Waynesburg University on the road for another non-conference contest. The game is set for 2:00 PM.
