ELKINS, W.Va. -
Wheeling Jesuit scored two goals late to defeat the Senators at Nuttall Field, 14-13 on Wednesday night.
Even though the visitors scored the first goal of the game only nine seconds in, the Senators responded quickly and took control over the game.
Aidan O'Dwyer was the first one to score for Davis & Elkins, followed by Trevor Kennedy, who scored off of Noland Morrison's assist.
The visitors didn't fall behind and kept following the Senators closely. Noland Morrison, assisted by Matt Dyck, Dyck himself, and Kyle Durec were the ones who helped D&E maintain a 5-4 lead in the first quarter.
In the second period, Matt O'Dwyer scored first, assisted by Durec. Less than 20 seconds later, it was Jordan Waddell's turn to get one in, and Kennedy, once again assisted by Durec, increased D&E's advantage to 8-4, the largest lead in the game.
Davis & Elkins outscored the visitors again in the third quarter. Matt O'Dwyer, assisted by Haydn Sitler, scored his second in the game. After letting the visitors tie the game 9-9, Durec fired another shot that beat the Cardinals' keeper, giving D&E the advantage again.
The other two goals of the period came from Matt Dyck, assisted by Aidan O'Dwyer, and Sitler, on an unassisted effort.
Durec scored his third goal in the game in the fourth quarter, but two late Wheeling Jesuit goals gave them a 14-13 lead. D&E made their final effort to tie the game but the Cardinals held off the charge to close out a 14-13 game.
The Senators will be back this Saturday against Felician University for another non-conference play. The game is set for 12:00 PM on Nuttall Field.
