CEDARVILLE, Ohio -
The Davis & Elkins College Senators Women's Tennis teams opened up GMAC play against defending conference champion Hillsdale, and followed that up with a match against Cedarville on the road over the weekend.
Against Hillsdale, the Senators hung tough in doubles matches, as
Taylour Newman and
Ester Bolmenas fell 6-3 at #1 doubles, and
Valentine Schwartz and
Karin Rosario dropped a tight 6-3 decision at #2 doubles.
In singles play, the Chargers were dominant in straight set wins at the top four lines of singles to close out a 5-0 win, with the match played to decision.
Against Cedarville, the closely contested doubles point carried over momentum into singles play.
Valentine Schwartz and
Karin Rosario were solid in a 6-4 win at #2 doubles. Cedarville won easily at #3 doubles, and the #1 doubles match went 6-4 in the way of the Yellow Jackets.
In singles play, Cedarville was able to close out tough matches over the Senators and win the match 6-1.
Valentine Schwartz was solid in a 6-1, 7-5 win at #4 singles to close out a strong day on the court.
Taylour Newman battled tough in a 6-4, 6-2 decision at #1, and
Ester Bolmenas fell close at #3, 6-4, 6-4.
Karin Rosario's #5 singles match went the distance but came up just short after rallying to win the second set, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7 in favor of Cedarville.
The Senators will play host to Salem on Tuesday at 3:30 PM.
