ELKINS, W.Va. - The Davis and Elkins College Men's Basketball team beat Malone University 73-71 in a last-second battle this afternoon at McDonnell Center for a G-MAC play.
Both teams kept a close battle throughout the first half of the game as D&E picked up a couple of three-pointers with
Edmund Parker,
Patrick Wilburn, and
Tyler Twyman. Each had one, two, and three, respectively.
Trevor English had seven assists during the first period that helped the Senators stay in front on the scoreboard until Malone took the 35-34 lead just a few seconds before halftime.
D&E followed Malone closely and both teams kept switching the lead throughout the second half. English increased the advantage for the Senators to 69-65 with two minutes left in the game.
The Senators would score two more and the Pioneers would go on and tie the game twice within 38 seconds, making it 71-71.
On the last second of the game,
Logan Phillips broke through Malone's defense and with a great layup, the Senior gave D&E their sixth win of the season.
English led the Senators in assists, picking up eight in the game and finishing with 15 points.
Parker added 11 points to the count, followed by Wilburn, who had 10 and eight rebounds.
Phillips finished the game with 7 points and picked up four steals.
The Senators shot 47 percent and were 51.7 from the free-throw line in the game, going 4-for-7.
The Davis and Elkins College Men's Basketball team will come back to action for another G-MAC battle next Thursday, as they face Ohio Valley University at home. The game is set for 5:30 PM.
