BRISTOL, Ten. -
Softball traveled south to take on King University in non-conference play on Sunday in Bristol, Tennessee.
Haley Grindstaff threw a complete game for the Senators in Game 1, finishing with seven hits allowed and one earned run on six innings pitched. Grindstaff also had five strikeouts.
That first inning run was the difference in the 1-0 final score, as the Senators couldn't push any runs across.
Alyssa Cairns had a triple, while
Ryn Boelter added two hits.
The Senators' best scoring opportunity came in the 4th inning, as they loaded the bases with two outs.
In Game 2, the Tornado scored first, with two first inning runs off
Jade Allee.
Kelsie Millner hit her first home run of the season in the Top of the 3rd inning, but King padded their lead with an eight-run inning to lead 10-1 after three innings.
D&E rallied with five runs in the fourth inning, as Allee hit a two-run home run, and Boelter scored Millner and
Katie Manson with a 2-RBI double.
King would score four more runs, for a final score of 14-6.
The Senators will return to action in Tennessee with two rescheduled games from Saturday against Tusculum this afternoon. Game times are set for 12 and 2 PM.
