The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team opened their 2019 season with a 7-0 loss to Edinboro on Saturday at Westwood Racquet Club in Erie, Pennsylvania.
The Fighting Scots, ranked 5th in the ITA Atlantic Region, dominated doubles play with scores of 6-2, 6-0, and 6-1.
Obert Matthew Mulyadi and
Andrew Shand both forced decisive third sets with their opponents.
Mulyadi won the first set 7-5 at #1 Singles over regionally ranked Mateus Santos, dropping the second set 6-4 before being forced to retire prior to the decider with an injury.
Andrew Shand, playing at #3 Singles, dropped the first set 7-5 to Nils Plutat, before rallying from a 3-0 deficit in the second set to take a 7-5 victory and force the third set. Plutat raised his level in the final set, to finish a 7-5, 5-7, 6-0 victory.
The Senators will return to the court on Wednesday, February 27th as they host Lake Superior State. First serve is set for 12 PM at the Thomas Tennis Center.
